WARNING: small children who like to eat these crackers might actually attempt to eat this knitted version (I've seen it happen). Do not give to a child likely to end up choking on it.

Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver in Pumpkin

Needles: US 0 or 1 double-pointed (see my double-pointed needle tutorial to learn how they work)

Also needed: tapestry needle and a sewing needle with some black thread

Cast on 10 sts, 5 on each of TWO needles (5 5), being sure to leave about three inches of tail
Knit 1 round
K2tog, k1, k2tog, k2tog, k1, k2tog (3 3)
K3tog twice (1 1)
Inc2 in all (3 3)
Inc1, k1, inc1, inc1, k1, inc1 (5 5)
Knit 3 rounds
K2tog, k1, k2tog, k2tog, k1, k2tog (3 3)
Push in a small amount of stuffing
Break yarn and sew through remaining sts, pulling tight and leaving 5 inches of tail.

Use the head-end tail and tapestry needle to sew through the head and around the front, pulling very tight, to form a little smiling mouth. Anchor the yarn by passing the needle through the smile yarn itself, then back through the head to the back of the head, then snip if off (this will leave a bit of tail in the fish so there isn't anything to tie off).

Use the tail-end tail yarn and tapestry needle to sew the tail of the fish closed.

Use the black thread and sewing needle to make a few tiny stitches back and forth through the head to form an indentation with a hint of black to make the eye.
